What’s the minimum required?

Most of us think that in order to make a big impact in our world, we must graduate at the top of our class. Or we must have extraordinary talents. Or we must have a large bank account. Those are great things and they can certainly be used to make a difference for good in the world. But here’s an observation. So much of the workforce tend to operate at an average level. I say this not as an indictment, but as an admitted personal view. There are those who ask themselves, “What’s the least I can do and still get a paycheck?” “What’s the minimum required?”

I recognize this is a general opinion piece and it may not be yours. But if the attitude of mediocracy is the reality for half of the adult population, all you need to do is elevate your effort 1% higher than the majority and you will be wildly successful. That’s not rocket science, it’s just logic. As a Christ-follower, you can add to that equation what the Apostle Paul says in Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,  since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. With that combination, you have a powerful motivation to make a significant difference at work, in your family, your community, and ultimately, in the world.
