What do I need to focus on?

With every “smartphone” update, there are new features to try out. My latest update features a way to “focus” your attention on a specific project without distractions. This is really helpful for me given my propensity to wander. But, it reminded me of the importance of figuring out “what do I need to focus on?” Here’s a quick primer that has been helpful to me.

1. Ask yourself what are the things you value most in life? More often than not my top values fall into one of two categories: Faith or Family. That doesn’t mean that Career, Education, Relationships, Health have little value. They’re just a notch below my top values.

2. What commitments have you made? You may have responsibilities you have agreed upon that need you’re attention.

3. Figure out how you spend your time. You may or may not need to refresh your time management skills.

4. Simplify. Enough said!

5. Choose to spend time with the people that matter the most. The Bible is pretty clear. Only two things last forever: People and the Word of God. It makes sense to me that I spend time on those things that last; knowing God better and loving people better.

1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord remains forever. And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. Learn and grow in your understanding of the Bible.

Matthew 25:46
And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Make sure of your relationship with God through Jesus.
