War with grandpa

I watched a comedy last night with my grandkids. It was called “The War with Grandpa.” A hilarious family movie where Granddad moves into his daughter’s and son-in-law’s home. Their youngest son is moved out of his bedroom to make room for Grandpa. He wants his room back so he “declares war on grandpa.” A conversation ensues before the war with grandson and grandpa. “You need an enemy to go to war and I’m not your enemy. War is no game, Peter. Only kids and fools and generals think that. War hurts and kills and is misery” says GrandpaThink about that statement for just a bit. Many movies tend to romanticize war and conflict, but the reality is that there will always be consequences…pain, death, misunderstanding, and loss, to name a few.  War is a terrible thing and there’s usually collateral damage. People get hurt who had nothing to do with the conflict. So, don’t declare war on someone just because you didn’t get your way. Going to war with someone because they took something from you or said something about you, just seems foolish to me. The bible puts it this way in Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
