The current divide in America

Posted in

Are you deeply bothered by the current divide in America? I am. Winston S. Churchill once said, “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.”  I believe the true divide between people is internal. It seems to me that what we are observing in the world and America is first a heart issue. Jeremiah 17:9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?  That doesn’t mean everyone is as bad as they can be, but it does mean that the core of every human being is a bent toward evil and sin. Even you and me. This applies to the lovely grandmother baking cookies for others as well as the corrupt and evil leaders of this world. It’s a desire to be first. It’s a need to control others. It’s wishing to be seen as important. It’s a yearning to set everyone’s agenda according to you.

According to Bible Study Tools website: Sin is a riddle, a mystery, a reality that eludes definition and comprehension. Perhaps we most often think of sin as wrongdoing or transgression of God’s law. Sin includes a failure to do what is right. But sin also offends people; it is violence and lovelessness toward other people, and ultimately, rebellion against God.

So here we are. Politics, COVID, unrest, pain, hopelessness. What are we to do? May I suggest that sin makes one contribution? Because of man’s rebellion against each other and ultimately against God, He chose to redeem his people from it through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.  These difficult and “evil” days have been the stimulus for God’s demonstration of his amazing patience, grace, and love. In this world, we’ll have trouble, but God has overcome the world. If you’ve never asked Jesus Christ to be the Lord of your life and deal with your sin, do it now. I’d love to have a conversation with you. Email me at bob@bobandjanet.org.
