Talk is cheap

How do you show your love for somebody? That’s a fair question. Now I’m not just talking about your boyfriend or girlfriend per se. In fact, let me rephrase the question. How do you show your love to anybody? As I ponder the question, there are several things that come to mind.

It’s not just something you say. Words are important, but sometimes talk is cheap. It’s not just something you feel. If love is only about emotions, most people realize that feelings are up and down. Most of the time, they are not the best indicators of truth. It’s not just something you think. Love must be more than an intellectual thing…something you merely think about.

If it’s none of those things, what is it? I’m convinced that demonstrating love must be something you do. The whole of the Scriptures declares this truth. In particular 1 John 4:9-11 says “This is how God showed his love among us:  He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love:  not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.  Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ”  John reveals that God is love in 1 John 4:7. If anyone can show me how to love, it would be the author of love. Make sense? So, follow my lead, and let’s take our love cues from Jesus. Let’s not just talk love, let’s do love.
