Science and the Bible

The Bible is the most amazing book on the planet. Many of you reading this blog may be aware of the uniqueness of the Scriptures. Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel have written extensively about its historicity and veracity. But I’d like to share a different thought. My undergraduate degree was in science. So, when I came to trust Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I was intrigued at how the Bible might interface with science.

Science is amazing! Did you know, God encouraged the scientific investigation of the world? Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” The Bible repeatedly asserts the precise order of the universe that makes scientific discovery possible. Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in him, all things hold together.

But here’s where someone like me (maybe someone like you) can get “sideways.” We must remember the Bible is filled with complete knowledge to know God, His purposes, and His plan for life. But, the Bible is not exhaustive knowledge. It doesn’t mention airplanes, molecular biology, or supernovas. But that’s not its purpose. Its purpose is to bring you to a personal relationship with God who is both our Creator and Redeemer. How about you? Have you let the Word of God change you into a follower of the Way? John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
