Repeat it, remember it! I recall one of my high school teachers telling the class his philosophy for education. We heard that four-word mantra for the better part of the semester. This simple admonition to his students has been repeated over and over again. It turned out to be rather helpful.
“The more often you see a product, the more desirable it becomes.” I read the phrase in a marketing book called “Buyology.” I liked the title, so I began reading. That particular phrase is more of an observation than a rule in advertising. I’ve found it to be true (ish) in most situations. This is why repetition is an educational pillar for learning. The more you repeat a phrase in language acquisition, time tables in mathematics, or a principle of life in philosophy, the more likely you’ll remember it.
I believe this is what the Apostle Paul had in mind when he penned the words found in Philippians 3:1 – “…It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.” Another translation says…”It’s not a bother for me to repeat the same things to you, and it serves as a safeguard for you.” He’s reminding us all that repetition isn’t just a memory aid but also a protective measure. The context suggests that possessing the right information can safeguard us from faulty teaching and unethical conduct. Maybe that’s why your Momma always repeated herself.
