Purpose

There was a table game years ago that I loved playing. It was called “Liar’s Club”. It was an American game show that featured a panel of celebrity guests who offered explanations of obscure or unusual objects. All were “made up” except one. Contestants attempted to determine which explanation was correct in order to win prizes. There were some crazy items on that program. There were exotic tools, car parts, hunks of metal, but here’s the interesting thing. Each item had a specific purpose. It was designed for something. It might be designed to open something, to make something work or to help someone accomplish something. I loved it and it was terribly entertaining.

Thinking of the game show reminds me of you and me. Each of us has been designed for something…some purpose. We are literally an important and necessary thread to a beautiful tapestry created by God. Our designer is also our Creator. God’s master plan of the ages includes you. That amazing truth by itself gives value to each and every human being. I like how Paul puts it in 2 Timothy 2:20-21. In a large house, there are articles not only of gold and silver but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

This verse demonstrates the incredible value God assigns to each of us. The value is great and the same, however, our roles a different and each has a purpose. So….on those days where you question your value and purpose, remember God never does.
