Who doesn’t like new things? I mean, it doesn’t matter if it’s expensive or economical, if it’s new, then it’s cool. But there is an interesting fact surrounding the word “new.” It can mean new to you…like a brand new pencil. It’s new to you, but there are also a million other pencils that look just like it.
There’s another meaning for the word “new”. It can also mean “one of a kind.” It’s new and there is nothing else like it. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, a Christian is identified as a “new” creation. Not refurbished, not new just like a billion others, but new as in “one of a kind.”
This creation was brought about by God Himself. Check out the passage, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” This was no “re-creation” but in fact an entirely fresh and totally unique work of God.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, you are unique, a significant distinctive part of the family of God. That “newness” gives worth and value to every child of God. Pretty cool. As a popular poster, a decade ago would say, “God don’t make junk!”
