I’m a chemistry minor from Northern Arizona University. I remember one professor who was delighted to share with his students his chemical analysis of human beings. He would say, “do you know that 99% of the mass of the human body consists of six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. They are worth about $576. All the other elements taken together are worth only about $9 more. That is assuming an average weight of 150 pounds.
There it is in black and white. You and I worth about 6oo bucks, give or take a few dollars. But every person on the planet, educated or not, intuitively knows our worth exceeds my former professor’s statement. David declares in Psalm 139 that we are “fearfully and wonderfully created.” In addition, we are molded by the God we serve and the people who have poured into our lives. The writer of Hebrews says, Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Hebrews 13:7
In other words, the people in our lives who we give permission to lead us by speaking the word of God to us are worthy of imitation…when we “consider” their conduct. Choose your mentors wisely. After all, you’re worth more than $600 bucks.
