Who will inspire the next generation? That’s a great question to ask yourself today. You may be the sort of person who says, “I can’t inspire a rock.” Well, don’t sell yourself short. Like it or not, people are watching you. You may not know they are, but they are. Years ago I was working on a college campus. I happened to be on a second-floor balcony looking out over the campus. A co-ed just came out of the bookstore and she was blowing a huge bubble with her bubble gum. Do you know what I did next? I went downstairs to the bookstore and bought a stick of “Bazooka” bubble gum. That student didn’t even know I existed, but she inspired me to go a buy some gum.
You have no idea who’s watching you…but someone is. A neighbor, a son, a daughter, a boss, an employee, a spouse, somebody! The Apostle Paul was writing to Titus some incredible words to live by. In Titus 2:7 he said, “ In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity and seriousness.” Your actions and your words can inspire or they can discourage and dissuade.
Casting Crowns wrote a song, “Be Careful What You Wish For.” The lyrics were pretty powerful. Be careful little eyes what you see. It’s the second glance that ties your hands. As darkness pulls the strings. Be careful little feet where you go. For it’s the little feet behind you. That are sure to follow.
Now go out and chew some gum. But better, go out and inspire someone!
