Go big or go home!

“Go big or go home!”  Many claim to know the origin of the phrase. Many suggest its usage started with the military. Pilots would use the phrase referring to the idea that the longer you stay on target, the higher the probability of a direct hit. But, the longer you stay on target, the more exposed your plane is to ground fire. Therefore, you need the intestinal fortitude to take a greater risk for the sake of a better result. Go big or go home!

People have used the phrase to describe some questionable behavior. The late actor Paul Walker used the expression to describe an attitude to bring to racing. Kat Von Drachenberg, author of  High Voltage Tattoo, also used the saying to justify destructive behavior. As followers of Jesus Christ, we can make a case for using the idiom as well. Consider these possibilities:

  • Christians should be decisive in their Christian life and not have one foot in the world and one foot following Jesus.
  • Christians should practice generosity and graciousness, even on difficult days.
  • Christians should surrender themselves completely to the Gospel and let Him do Kingdom stuff through them.

Maybe it’s time for you and me to “Go big or go home!”
