This morning, I experienced something indescribable. I can narrate the scene, but I struggle to convey its profound impact on me. I was working on my computer at McDonald’s (yes, I can work there!). An older couple entered and placed their order. They moved with a slow, hesitant gait. They settled into the booth next to mine. It became evident that the woman was unable to speak or feed herself. For the next 30 minutes, I witnessed a divine moment. The husband lovingly and patiently fed his wife a breakfast sandwich. Not a single word was exchanged. Instead, a profound depth of love unfolded before my eyes, leaving me almost embarrassed to witness such an intimate display of affection. It was as if I had been granted a glimpse into the love life of a couple who truly embodied love and companionship. I want to love like that.
Listen to (read) Ephesians 5:1-2: Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.
