Christmas in nine words

What’s your favorite Christmas verse in the Bible? Isaiah 7:14? “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” Matthew 1:21? “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” How about Luke 2:13-14 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Mine is an unlikely candidate. Galatians 4:4. I like to refer to it as “Christmas in nine words.” “In the fulness of time, God sent His son…” So much is wrapped up in those 9 words. It reminds me of all the work of God in creation, the faithfulness of God in the nation of Israel, the history of God in using the Greek and Roman culture, and the preparation of God for Jesus to enter our world at the right time. For example, Greek became the common language of the Mediterranean so that the average could understand the Gospel message. Rome was a peace so people could travel throughout the Empire without fear. That made the spreading of the Good News possible. A government-issued census moved Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem at just the right time. In God’s economy, timing is everything. Maybe this is the right time for you to ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. May Jesus Christ richly bless you this Christmas
