I experienced a pretty big disappointment yesterday. Somebody let me down, and it really “blindsided” me. But it shouldn’t have. You’re smart, and you know that sinful people do sinful things. If you’re not Jesus, you’re not perfect. In fact, when you think about Jesus, He was never shocked by others short comings. You’d never hear Jesus say, “Oh, I can’t believe they’re being sinful.” He knew they were.
So, for those of us who need it, here’s a reality check:
Someone’s going to lie to you.
Someone’s going to let you down.
Someone’s going to betray you.
Someone’s not going to show up.
Someone’s not going to say thank you for that thing you did.
What we need to remember is this: Have you never let somebody down? Of course, you have, and so have I.
John 2:24-25 “But Jesus on His part did not entrust Himself to them, because He knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for He Himself knew what was in man.”
Jesus wasn’t naïve. He loved people deeply without unrealistic expectations. Take a cue from Jesus. It just might turn a hard day into a good day.
