Anticipation

Anticipation. That is the title to a 70’s song by Carly Simon. Just a few lines of the lyrics say, “We can never know about the days to come, But we think about them anyway.” It’s a secular perspective on life. Every person who walks on this planet could identify with those lyrics. But as a Christ-follower, we can know something about the days to come. We know that we have a future here and now. But, we also know that we have an ultimate future in heaven. I’ve blogged often on heaven and how much God desires us to have a personal relationship with Jesus to be with Him forever. But, how about the “here and now?” What if things aren’t going so great right now?

You can choose to live by fear, or you can choose to live by faith.  Paul, in Philippians 1:20, says, “I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.”  “I live in eager expectation while I’m going through all these trials.”  Notice he doesn’t say, “I live in eager expectation because everything’s going great.”  He says, “While I’m going through trials, I live in eager expectation.” Now, what are you expecting God to do in your life?
